As penance for being really gross about rainbow drinkers, I am am not explaining troll eyes using a compound eye model.

You’re welcome.  Compound eyes were simpler and more elegant, I’ll have you know.

1) Troll eye in bright light, with the pupil contracted
2) Troll eye in dim light, with the pupil dilated
3) Troll eye with pupil dilated in bright light, displaying vibrant red eyeshine.

I say unto Hussie’s word of god: your science is bad, you give me a headache, and I will fucking change it to gross, not-sexy compound eyes if you push me.  (If you really want to have some capillaries burst near the pupil as a common result of aging, I suppose that would be okay.) 

Wow, hi, new headcanon. I always wanted these kinds of eyes in a vague way, but then Hussie came with the boring yellow sclera thing… but no this is much better.
